It's easy to go hog-wild on these tests and the next thing you know it feels like you are at a carnival with carnival barkers vying for your attention. Then you just tune them out until something serious does happen and you ignore it. Important to really think about what you really need to test and less is really more.

Exactly. Testing without real use cases in mind would end up in test spaghetti that add just noise without value. I like the approach of testing only the most dramatic things and then add as use cases show up.
